Death Song

Death Song was based on a significant painting by Georges De La Tour (1593-1652) that I saw at the Prado in Madrid, just after finishing my apprenticeship with Odd Nerdrum in Norway (2016).
The Black Angels are a band that I’ve followed since their early days, and I was able to ask Christian Bland (guitarist) to pose in the style of La Tour’s The Hurdy-gurdy Player. They were playing at Thalia Hall in Chicago, and after sound check I got in a 15 minute photoshoot with Christian backstage. I hope I captured the transient nature of a musician on tour.
